The Oasis

The desert storm, the scorching sun

The scenic, tranquil water mirage…

Camels and the colorful caravans

The palms, sailboats, music and wine

Is this an oasis I ask….

Where cultures meet, people greet

Hallelujah!! Hookahs and belly dance

The Sheikhs, Indians, Philippines, Europeans,

A cultural cocktail, high on life …

Similar yet diverse, welcoming travellers

to rest, stay, move on with memories…

Everything’s different, but for one

All expatriates, searching for peace…

This is their haven, a place out of world

Uniquely theirs, though a bit shared

Collage of aspirations with colourful hues

Each one on his own… yet together they stand…

On this oasis of their dreams…

Ruffled wind, soothing smiles

Unspoken words, understood signs

Sky rise buildings, architectural delights

Man made islands, souks of spice…

Shopping malls, sparkling gold,

Materialistic, big, promising, charming…

Playful home to young and old…

Dictator, democrats, rulers and the ruled,

Mixed opinions, religions, beliefs

Warm outside, ventilated cold

Beach desert, Snow Island

A combination of contradictions

Land of possibilities…

This oasis means so much… to a desert that was… !

Work begins a day in advance

Week ends a day ahead.

Out of the race, yet competing somewhere…

Creating its footprint on the world map..

As the island of gold…as seen from space…

Vacation spot, a place to rest

Tax free life at its luxurious best!

Hungry for success, thirsty for pride…

This is Dubai my friend... the oasis of the world!!
